Evidence of Evolution

According to Evolutionists, birds descended from Dinosaurs.

Yeah, I can see the resemblance, can't you?

Middle East Misinformation

"There should be an end to the occupation that began in 1967. The agreement must establish a Palestine as a homeland for the Palestinian people, just as Israel is a homeland for the Jewish people...The establishment of a Palestinian state is long overdue. The Palestinian people deserve it” (January 10, 2008)

Who spoke these words? A prominent leader in the Arab world? A member of a jihadist group?

None of the above.

George W. Bush spoke these words.

There was a time when I had great respect and admiration for our President, but those days are past, though I do not hate him as the liberals do. I think he did the right thing by going into Afghanistan and Iraq. I think he did the right thing (though not soon enough) with the surge in Iraq. I think he’s done a lot of good as President, but mostly in the area of the War against Terrorism.

But now he’s succumbed to political correctness and the false notion that Israel is an occupier, or that the “Palestinians” are a legitimate group of people.

Fact: There is no such country/nation/ or state called Palestine. There are no “Palestinians”. The people in this area are Arabs and speak Arabic. They don’t speak “Palestinian”. There is no distinct “Palestinian” culture.

It is extremely interesting as a Christian to know how the Middle East story will end.

Follow up on Previous Post

Because of a response I had on my previous post, I wanted to do a follow up.

Brian, I am not picking on you. I believe you are sincere in what you said, and want to be a good steward of God's gift of the earth to us. I just don't know if you've thought through your response:

Get reusable cloth bags?
Walk to the store and only carry as much as you can fit in your backpack?
Use paper bags made from recycled content?

I respect anyone who wants to be a good steward, and we should do what we can individually and collectively to help keep our environment safe. However, too many, even in Conservative circles, have bought into the lie that man is the primary cause of Global Warming, or that we are somehow “evil” and are harming “mother earth” because we are industrialized and have been able to invent products that make life more convenient. Should we do all we can to stop intentional polluting and damage to the air we breathe and the water we drink. Yes. But not with knee jerk reactions that are supposed to make us feel better about outselves but do nothing to really help with the problem.

The notion that getting rid of plastic shopping bags is going to help the environment is ridiculous.

Do you realize how much plastic you personally use? Are you willing to give up all plastic? Then you may have to give up the following:

Automobiles (most autos are full of plastic)
Electricity in your home (electrical wiring, outlets, and appliances utilize plastic because it is non-conductive)
Many cooking utensils and containers
Your computer
Many of the furnishings and appliances in your home
Most of your cleaning products and shop items (most come in plastic containers)
Many of your food items that you buy every week (milk, ketsup, margarine, bread, etc. etc.)
Toys for your kids
Picture frames
Calculators, copy machines, fax machines, etc.
Toys for your pet
Eating out (especially take-out and fast food)
Your air conditioning and heating units (they both contain some plastic components)
Many of the books you read
Storage containers
Make-up (hopefully only if you are female)
Sports equipment

Etc. Etc. Etc.

On using reusable cloth bags. I buy about $150-$200 worth of groceries a week. Do you know how many bags I'll have to buy to package all that? The last time I checked, those bags range from $7 up. I estimate I'd have to spend a minimum of around $100 just on bags.

On walking to the grocery store. I would have to walk 2 miles to the nearest grocer - and that would take more time than I have. Plus, carrying only what I could put in a backpack would mean I had to walk back and forth much more often. I buy too many groceries for this option. And what about handicapped and elderly individuals who can't walk?

On using recycled paper bags. I don't have a problem with this one that I can think of. I ask for paper bags when they are available, simply because I can get more in them than a plastic bag and they don't have handles that tear if you load them too heavy. However, that still doesn't elimate the fact that there are many more items made out of plastic than shopping bags - and recycled paper products can't do what plastic can do in most cases. Besides, it takes much more energy to produce recycled paper than plastic, so there's another down side.

Years ago, the US and several other countries banned R12 refrigerant to "save the ozone". This caused prices to go up in the automobile and contruction industries as well as many others - but did little to help the environment - for one thing, there are still many countries around the world that still produce R-12 and tons of it are smuggled in and sold on the black market each year.

Sometimes in an attempt by the goverment to "protect us from ourselves", there are unplanned consequences that are equal to or worse than the thing that was to be regulated in the first place.

So, to reiterate my earlier statement...

The notion that getting rid of plastic shopping bags is going to help the environment is ridiculous.

The Green Religion "Down Under"

The government of Australia is hoping to phase out the plastic bag by year’s end.

Seriously. No joke.

So what do Aussies do next?
They could use more paper bags…
Nope – cutting down trees hurts the environment.
They could buy less at a time and just go to the grocer more often…
Nope – driving a vehicle to and fro hurts the environment.

At some point, some wacko liberal green party type will come to the conclusion that the only way to save the environment is for all humans to drop dead.

Are you in Darkness?

I was listening to the radio the other day (Christian of course) and there was a short commentary by a preacher in between two of the songs. This is basically what he said, and it was so profound to me that I wanted to share it. You younger folks won't remember a time when there wasn't a light switch on the wall, but hang in there - you'll get the message anyway.

Remember when there were no light switches on the wall? If you wanted to turn a light on in the room, you had to pull a string at the light bulb itself. If it happened to be dark, you had to literally walk through the room where you knew the bulb was with your hand up in the air, waving it around, looking for the string. You knew the light was there. You knew the string was there. You couldn’t see, but you lifted up your hand and moved around until you found it.

Are you in darkness? (You see where I’m going with this, don’t you?) Jesus is there to give you light. Maybe you can’t see Him, but you know He is there. So while you are in your darkness, lift up your hand and reach for Him until you find Him. You know He’s there! You know He is LIGHT. Just keep your hand in the air and search until you find Him. When you do, He will give you light! In fact, why not lift up both your hands in the air – you might find Him more quickly! Praise the Lord.

For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. Psalms 18:28

Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. Psalms 112:4

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. Isaiah 9:2

And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. Isaiah 42:16

Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me. Micah 7:8

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through Him might believe. John 1:6-7

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. John 3:19-20

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12

Pride, Certainty, Confidence

Sometimes people confuse pride with confidence. I am very confident in my faith. I know Jesus is the only way to heaven. I know that. I know it as well as I know my name, as well as I know that my eyes are green. That is confidence. It is certainty. It is not pride.

I was recently accused of being prideful and judgmental because I was sharing what the Bible says about man, sin, and our need for salvation through the ONLY way – Jesus Christ.

I’m reading I Timothy and came across this verse, which I thought I would share with those who accuse me of pride.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” I Timothy 1:15

That’s me. I’m a chief sinner. Having admitted that publicly, and having no qualms about doing so, I challenge my critics to read the first part of that verse.

We can’t save ourselves by our good deeds. Christ Jesus is the only One Who can save us.

Christians are human, and can become prideful, for which God will chasten them. He hates pride. However, you can't be prideful and become a Christian. Pride is a sin, and you must repent of your sins in order to receive Christ.

Bible Prophecy

Why do I believe that the Bible is actually THE Word of God, and not just a book written by men?

One very compelling reason: Prophecy

The Bible is full of prophecies that have already been fulfilled, and others that will be fulfilled in time. No prophecy of the Bible has ever been proved wrong.

Here is a very partial list of fulfilled prophecies of the Bible:

Concerning the nation of Israel:
Israel would become a great nation (Gen. 12:1-3)
Israel’s kings would come out of the tribe of Juday (Gen. 49:10)
Israel would spend 400 years in Egypt (Gen. 15:13)
Israel would spend 70 years in Babylon (Jeremiah 25:11, 29:10)
Israel would return to Jerusalem after the 70 years (Daniel 9:1-2)
Israel would be hounded and persecuted (Deuteronomy 28:65-67)
Israel would reject her Messiah (Isaiah 53)
Jerusalem would be destroyed (Luke 19:41-44)
Israel would return to her land in the days prior to the Second Coming of Christ (Deuteronomy 30:3, Ezekiel 36:24, 37:1-14, 38:1 - 39:29)

Concerning Edom:
Edom would be betrayed and destroyed by their allies (Obadiah 1:7)
Edom’s race would become extinct (Obadiah 1:17-18)

Concerning Babylon:
Babylon would fall in one night (Daniel 5, Isaiah 13, Jeremiah 51)
(Happened October 13, 539BC)
Babylon would become a barren desert (Jeremiah 51:43)
Babylon would be covered with sea (Jeremiah 51:42)
Sounds contradictory? Babylon is parched desert part of the year, and is overrun by the Euphrates part of the year.

Concerning Greece:
Greece would be divided into 4 separate kingdoms (Daniel 8)
(Happened when Alexander the Great died and his empire was divided between his 4 generals)

Concerning Jesus:
His rejection by Israel (Isaiah 53:3)
His forerunner, John the Baptist (Isaiah 40:3-5, Malachi 3:1)
His city of birth (Micah 5:2-3)
His Childhood in Nazareth (Isaiah 11:1)
His Parables (Isaiah 6:9-10)
His betrayal by a friend for 30 pieces of silver (Psalm 41:9, 55:12-14, Zechariah 11:12-13)
The betrayal money used to purchase a potter’s field (Jeremiah 18:1-4)
His crucifixion between two thieves (Isaiah 53:12)
The piercing of his hands and feet (Psalm 22:16, Zechariah 12:10)
His thirsting on the cross (Psalm 22:15)
His burial in a rich man’s grave (Isaiah 59:9)

The above list is very very partial. The point is, no other world religion can claim predictive prophecy. Does the Quran have fulfilled prophecies? Only one – and it was self fulfilling. Mohammed prophesied that he would return to Mecca and he did.

There have been some “so-called” prophets throughout history that occasionally got one right, but none can claim the accuracy of Scripture. There are over 2000 Old Testament prophecies that have already been fulfilled, and in fact, if these prophecies are broken down into all of their individual elements, there are actually over 10,000 OT prophecies that have been fulfilled.

There is not one prophecy in Scripture that has been proved wrong. Over ½ have already been fulfilled, and the rest will be fulfilled.

Now take a look at some of the prophecies concerning the end times.

It prophesies that there will be a one-world government.
It prophesies that there will be a one-world religion.
It prophesies a Revived Roman Empire (a unified Europe).
It prophesies a persecuted Israel (this was written during the time after Jerusalem had fallen. Israel was “reborn” as a nation in 1948)
It prophesies that Christians will be supernaturally removed from earth.
It prophesies a seven year peace treaty with Israel brought about by the anti-Christ.
It prophesies the mass persecution of Christians, many by beheading.
It prophesies that two men of God will be killed and lie in the street for three days while the “whole world” looks on and celebrates their deaths.
It prophesies a third World War in which Islam will be defeated.
It prophesies history’s worst earthquake and earth’s worst hailstorm.
It prophesies what appears to be a nuclear explosion .

After Christians are removed from earth, God’s wrath will be poured out.

“…the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand it.” Revelation 6:17)

Because the Bible has proven its prophetic ability, I shudder at the end times prophesies, because I know they WILL take place. I’m thankful that as a Christian, I will be spared the seven years of wrath. Will you be spared?

Life and Death in Kenya

I received the following email from a missionary in Kenya. Because he and family are in danger, I have removed any references to names or places that could endanger him or the other missionaries/Christians mentioned. Please pray for these men, women and children who have followed God's call to bring the Gospel to this country.

We Christians here in the States too often take our freedom and safety for granted. What if it was you who were holed up in your home with riots and murdering, burning of buildings and fighting in your neighborhood? Would your faith be strong?

Here is the letter, uncut, except for names and specific places removed:

I know you won't recognize some of the names I mention but you'll get the gest of it. Yeah, things here are unlike anything I've seen in the last 20 years. Things are very tense all around the country. The election was rigged. The evidence is overwhelming. Even the local election officials are admitting to bowing to pressure from the president to rig it. Riots got close to home yesterday. **** round-about ****. One was killed there. Then they spilled out onto the **** road from ***** there at the ***** Hotel. They were looking for Kikuyu's. So far the Kikuyu's have been silent. If they decide to retaliate??? They are a rough tribe. Kibaki is an entirely different kind of person than I've ever seen him. He said last night on TV that even if he remains with only 10 people, he'll be the president of 10. **** and ***** are hiding and feeding about 20 Kikuyu's in ******’s compound.(these are Christian friends of our's in *****). All lorry traffic is at a standstill. Uganda and other countries east of us have no fuel now. Ten buses of Kikuyu's under military escort were brought to Nakuru from Eldoret yesterday. World Vision pulled all it's personnel out today and sent them to Tanzania for at least three weeks. Luo's burned the largest AIC church in Kibera yesterday. Luyah's and Kikuyu's are camping out at **** (our pastor at **** is one of them). The American Embassy hasn't issued quit orders but is telling us to just lay low for now. **** is having his passports flown in from ***** on Monday via ****. I'll pick them and hold them for him just in case. He's in ***** and says Lodwar will be out of fuel and food by the time you get this because no vehicles are running. ***** had to hide at ******. His family has been camping at the ***** since Saturday. 4 were killed in front of *****’s church on Sunday. ***** said that Kenya will be another Ivory Coast if Kibaki doesn't step down. Fat chance of him stepping down. You know how African's are about saving face. We have about a weeks worth of food here. **** sensed that it would be like this. Praise God for her. This has been really good for me. I've drawn closer to the Lord than I've been for a while. I had a wreck in my **** and its in the shop. The engine is out of the *****. We have ******’s car. I could go on and on but Desmond Tutu came in yesterday and met with Odinga. He meets Kibaki today. We'll see. For now things are ok for us but I'm very concerned about our people, especially in ****. ***** and family have been indoors for one week. Their food is gone and water too. All men must stay awake at night with machete's ready. They even carry machetes to the out-house. Pray for us. Its funny how things have turned so quickly.

Atheism is a Religion

Atheists have increased their attacks against what they call "religion" since the 9/11 attacks, and have lumped all religions into one, saying that religion leads to violence because of intolerance, that religion is just a crutch for the weak, and that any rational, intellectual, scientific individual knows that there is no God.

When confronted with arguments to the contrary, they usually (though not always) result to ad hominem attacks against whomever would dare to disagree with them. But then, atheists are like Christians, or any other group of people - some are nice, others are jerks - it works that way with all humans.

The truth is, atheism has all the components of a religion, and is based on beliefs.

They believe there is no God.
They have doctrine (a set of ideals that they are taught and teach others)
They have "historical fathers"
They have their present priests/elders (leaders)
They have a lawgiver and set of rules and standards (they are their own God, and their own lawgiver)
They believe in their wordview
They believe theirs is the only truth.

I actually have a little more respect for atheists than agnostics. Atheists at least on the surface, are more sure of themselves, and tend to stand up for what they believe in. Agnostics on the other hand, tend to not defend themselves too much or attack a belief in God unless they are cornered into it, at which time they can be just as vicious as an atheist. Having been a former agnostic, I understand their postion better than I can an atheist's, but know that inside, the agnostic just isn't sure - but is hoping he's not wrong.

Atheists mock Christian's belief in heaven - a place of eternal joy that we receive at the end of this life - having put our faith in Jesus for our salvation.

Atheist's heaven is on earth - it's a place where they can do whatever they want to, whenever they want to, with whomever they want to - as a result of their belief that there is no God.

Atheists are sometimes frustrating to try to converse with, because they are so often hostile, but "liberal" or "progressive" Christians are sometimes equally so. That seems a little strange, but when one realizes that progressives are in some cases no closer to Christianity than an atheist, it doesn't seem so strange.

Atheists, agnostics, liberal progressives...they can all be saved. And many from all three of these groups have been. I'm one. I know a considerable number of others. So if someone you care for false into one of these three categories, don't give up. Keep praying for them. Watch God work. He does still save.

There is No Such Thing as an Ex-Christian

I occasionally run across someone who claims that they used to believe like I do, and got “saved” and baptized and went to church every Sunday etc. etc. Then they realized, they say, that it was all bogus – and now they are either an atheist or have “converted” to some other religion.

Is it possible to be an ex-Christian?

Not according to Scripture.

Becoming a Christian is not just an “I think I’ll decide to be a Christian and go to church” decision.

Being a Christian is not just following the principles that Jesus set before us to aspire to attain.

Being a Christian is more than being born into a Christian family and having been exposed to Christianity all one’s life – going through the “rituals” associated with attending Sunday School and Church, singing in a choir, doing charity work, and trying to live a good “Christian” life.

At some point, you might want to ask yourself, Are You Really a Christian?

A true Christian conversion is a supernatural occurrence.

When you are truly sorry of your sins, and realize that you are unworthy of heaven, and call on Jesus Christ to save you, the Holy Spirit comes to you and indwells in you.

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.” Romans 8:9

Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit.” I John 4:13

Once you have been born again, the Scripture says you are a new creature. The old man (your former self before you were saved) is replaced by the new man (who you are in Jesus Christ).

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” II Corinthians 5:17

Because of this, the new birth, one cannot revert back to their lost state because they are sealed by the Holy Spirit for all time.

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” Romans 6:6

There are those who appear outwardly to be Christians by their actions – but inwardly they are still the “old man” and have never been reborn. And because of this, they have no Holy Spirit guidance in their lives and are subject to disappointments, anger and disillusionment than can cause them to abandon their “Christian” living. These are the individuals that John speaks of in I John 2:19:

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.”.

When we are saved, there is no turning back. We belong to God. He made sure of that. When He makes a promise, He doesn’t depend on us to keep it.

For when God made promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no greater, He sware by Himself,” Hebrews 6:13

Some people who try to argue that one can lose their salvation use this key verse to support their belief:

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,” Hebrews 6:4

Some believe that the word “enlightened” means that one was saved, but the Greek word from which it was derived is totally different than the word in both Acts 16:31 [“And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”] and Romans 10:9 ["That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”] that is translated “saved”.

Now I think it’s important to make a distinction here between someone who was never born again and someone who was, but who has turned their back on God and decided to live their own life the way they choose. This is different, because in this case, the person is saved, and is a child of God, but is rebelling. Just as an earthly father will chastise (punish) his children for rebellion and disobedience, God will do the same to one of His children. The Bible tells us the three steps that God takes to bring a child back into obedience.

First, there is the conviction of the Holy Spirit. When we are saved, we still sin, but we are sorrowful over our sin. “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.” Romans 7:19

If we do not turn from our sin, and continue in it, our heart hardens, and the conviction of the Holy Spirit has less and less effect on us. If we get to this point, God goes to the next step of chastening.

Second, there is the chastening. “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.” Revelation 3:10

When God chastens, it hurts. And most of us realize when we are being chastened by God, and the marvelous conviction of the Holy Spirit brings us back to the Father. But in some extreme cases, for various reasons, a Christian will resist both the conviction and the chastening of God, usually because of pride. So they force God to take the third and final step of chastening.

Third, there is death. “If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.” I John 5:16

The sin unto death does not mean the person dies and goes to hell. But he or she is taken out of this world and brought home to heaven.

To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” I Corinthians 5:5

God PROMISES to chastise His children if they are rebellious or disobedient. So if someone is claiming to be an ex-Christian and their life is miserable and full of trouble and trials, they are being chastened by God, and if they don’t repent and turn back to Him, He will cause them to die before their time.

However, if someone claims to be an ex-Christian, and there is no sign of chastening, and they spend their entire lives mocking God without any consequences, you can be assured they were never born again – and their consequences will take place AFTER their death instead of in this life.

If someone plays around with Christianity without ever repenting of their sin and accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior, then they were never born again. And in the Day of Judgment, when they realize their mistake and try to persuade Him that they really were, He will say “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Matthew 7:23
