The World is at War so...Let's All Disarm?

Jonathan Power, in an editorial Friday, suggested that it is time to consider abolishing all nuclear weapons. He spends most of his editorial trying to convince us that most if not all of the world’s leaders really do want to do this so we can all live without fear of nuclear holocaust. He suggests instead that we concentrate on improving the accuracy of conventional weapons.
Inserted in one paragraph toward the end of his article is a brief mention of “oh yeah…we would still have to deal with terrorists and ‘rogue states’” as he called them, after first blaming George Bush for our having to deal with them in the first place. However, he gives no real plan for dealing with them.

The naivety of the left never ceases to amaze me. First of all, his timing is astonishing. Take a look at what is going on around the world at this exact moment. What is he thinking? What is Jonathan Power’s definition of a “rogue state”? Just how honest does he think the world's governments really are? Does he really think most countries are altruistic? I’m surprised he didn’t publicly call on the US to be the first to cast aside her weaponry. Or how about Israel? Let her be first. Then all the other countries will follow suit, right? After all, he seems convinced that the other similarly-armed countries would do the same immediately. Not suprisingly, I originally found his editorial in none other than the Jordan Times. Bet he's a favorite of Ahmadinejad.

We live in a world of enemies. Backing down is seen as a sign of weakness. Enemies exploit weakness. Look at what happened when Israel agreed to the cease fire. Hezbollah declared victory and proclaimed Israel’s weakness.

Can you imagine the US declaring that she was disarming her nuclear program? Bye-bye Miss American Pie.
Or Israel? Sorry...Israel? Never heard of 'em. That's Arab territory now.

What does God say about spiritual warfare?

"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Ephesians 6:11

"Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier." 2 Timothy 2:3-4

If Christians followed Power's line of thought, we'd lay down our Bibles and our prayer life and try to reason with the Devil. God says that's not possible. Instead, we are to know our enemy and use our best defense.

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" 1 Peter 5:8

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you..." James 4:7-8

To Mr. Power the first name on that list of 'Rogue States' would likely be... United States of America

Furthermore, as un-Christian as this may sound, I wouldn't feel comfortable laying down my weapons until Jesus himself instructed the world to begin beating swords into plowshares... but then, I don't own any guns-- A few swords, but not guns. Yes, I know I'm strange, and thanks for pointing that out [sighs heavily, and rolls eyes]...
