No Need to Worry - WHO Spokesman
Oxymoron du jour: The World Health Organization
Gregory Hartl, a spokesman for the WHO, says his organization doesn’t see a need for border closures or travel restrictions due to the growing numbers of flu victims.
“He noted that infected people may not show symptoms at the airport or when they reach a border crossing. "Certainly, if you feel that you are ill, you should not travel, in any case, to anywhere," Hartl said.
Lessons learned from the SARS (a viral respiratory disease) outbreak in Asia in 2003 showed that border closure was economically disruptive and not particularly effective. "In public health terms, it didn't work, so we don't want to repeat something that didn't work" Hartl said.
Two totally different situations. They weren’t dealing with illegals in Asia.
Here, we’re dealing with illegals from Mexico who have already caused an increase in previously almost non-existent diseases such as leprosy, tuberculosis and hepatitis A, B, and C.
Hartl, by saying that “it didn’t work”, is being disingenuous and showing us that he thinks the American public is a bunch of idiots who don’t have a clue.
Certainly, according to Hartl, if the illegals feel that they are ill, they won’t travel…
Right... and Mexican hygiene is world renown.

Ms.Green, Your analyzes is right on. All our Government cares about at present is that the check-out lines at the local stores keep ringing up so that it won't harm an already reeling economy. So what if your a walking time bomb of contagious disease. Keep those boarders open so that the flow of disease -oops- I ment to say flow of disenfranchised workers can continue. God Bless, Herm
Ms Green, please tell me you aren't taking this Swine Flu "Crisis" seriously!
There is no crisis. More people die every year from the more common types of flu than the Swine Flu. And they wouldn't die if they took better care of themselves.
There is only a crisis because Obama wants to scare the people into his National Health care scheme. That is the only reason the Swine flu even makes the news.
There is nothing the Government could ever do to make things better. Only worse.
Mark,
I'm by no means scared of the swine flu and do not think we have a flu crisis on our hands. My point is that our government will not close our borders to illegals NO MATTER WHAT!.
The stats show that illegals do bring disease across the border with them - and if even one person gets sick or dies because our government won't enforce the borders, it is a travesty.
My disgust is with their steadfast refusal to do anything about controlling our borders - and even if the swine flu was as dangerous and catastrophic as some claim it is, our government STILL would do nothing to protect our borders.
Thanks for the question - so I could clarify my position.
