Middle East Misinformation

"There should be an end to the occupation that began in 1967. The agreement must establish a Palestine as a homeland for the Palestinian people, just as Israel is a homeland for the Jewish people...The establishment of a Palestinian state is long overdue. The Palestinian people deserve it” (January 10, 2008)

Who spoke these words? A prominent leader in the Arab world? A member of a jihadist group?

None of the above.

George W. Bush spoke these words.

There was a time when I had great respect and admiration for our President, but those days are past, though I do not hate him as the liberals do. I think he did the right thing by going into Afghanistan and Iraq. I think he did the right thing (though not soon enough) with the surge in Iraq. I think he’s done a lot of good as President, but mostly in the area of the War against Terrorism.

But now he’s succumbed to political correctness and the false notion that Israel is an occupier, or that the “Palestinians” are a legitimate group of people.

Fact: There is no such country/nation/ or state called Palestine. There are no “Palestinians”. The people in this area are Arabs and speak Arabic. They don’t speak “Palestinian”. There is no distinct “Palestinian” culture.

It is extremely interesting as a Christian to know how the Middle East story will end.

I had this doubt all along that you are nothing but a far-right 'republican' attack machine with no respect for other views and religions. Over the time, you proved it again and again. With this post, you totally exposed yourself! You attack anyone who goes against the far-right script...including GW Bush!!

You talk as if Palestenians (who were livng there before european jews moved into the region) are not even human beings and they don't deserve their land. There is no logic or compassion in your thinking except the 'logic of Bible'.

Please feel free to ban my comments. Because you won't find anymore from my side. I'm leaving voluntarily! Good luck with your life! I really hope that you God blesses you with more wisdom!

Yep... and this only solidifies my belief that, while Bush may indeed be quite sincere and well meaning, he is obviously a "Baby Christian" and whoever is advising him on Israel (perhaps one of those kooky "replacement theologists") is gravely mistaken if they think forcing Israel to give land away-- land that according to Genesis is "God's" land, given to the Descendants of Abraham to hold in stewardship --will bring peace. It won't. What it will bring is judgment from God.

This kind of rhetoric is dangerous. While the bible does say we are to bless Israel, that doesn't necessarily mean the "Government" of Israel which is extremely "secular humanistic." Side note: Israel has the largest number of abortions per year (wish I could remember where I read that, as well as the context... I'll look).

Anyway, we are to bless the "people" not the government. The land is non-negotiable... it belongs to God. The Temple Mount is His footstool. Giving THAT away spells disaster to all involved, including the U.S.

Bush is making a grave error here. My money's on the EU and its future president Tony Blair.

I never thought I'd see the day when a liberal agnostic would defend George W Bush from me. *grin*

Your sudden change in tone says you are an angry individual. I'm sorry that you have that much hostility inside - and hope you are able to overcome it - because it will ultimately hurt you - not those that offend you.

Just for the record: I'm still praying for you. I'm not made at you. I'm not offended by you, and I don't "not like" you.

Contrary to American's assertion, non-European Jews have been living in Israel for near four-thousand years. And prior to the U.N.'s declaration that Israel BE a nation again, the so-called "Palestinians" and Jews lived peacefully with each other.

Hello, first time reader of this blog, If I may be allowed to comment..??..I think Pat Robertson was right to criticize Israel in it's bargaining its's land. Anyway,,,There can be no state of Palestinian state without them recognizing the existance of Israel. The sad thing is if a DNA was taken from an arab and a jew they probably would match.....They are both God's people, seeds of Abraham. This land was given by God to the Israelites not for a specific period, but forever. This land was also taken in conquest in the 1967 war along with much much more about 90% of which has been ceded back to the offending previous countries, now lets have them cede more to more arabs. I really do not think The area countries want a Palestinian state. If there is a palestine, maybe the citizens from those countries will look at their own crummy circumstances and that will not be good...Think about it.....I ramble. stay well.....

God gave that land to the Jews. He did not give it to the Palestinians. If we support the theft of the Jews land by any people, we are betraying Israel and the wrath of God will be upon us.

Thanks all of you for the input. Tap, you are right - Arabs don't want a Palestinian state as much as they want Israel to cease to exist.

And Mark, God did say He would bless those that bless Israel and curse those that curse Israel.

I hope I am not casting salt to open wounds here, ... but if one excludes the Bible and any emotional attachments to the plight of Jews throughout their history, ... there is or was rather a place called Palestine that was ruled as a British protectorate prior to the 1940's. It was the Zionist movements of the late 1800's and early 1900 that got the "Israel" as we know it to be born in such amazing haste and evolution. I am not a Jew hater, nor an Arab defender, I am simply saying that there were Arabs living in the land called Palestine before they were removed via political and military expediency. Was it fair and just? That's pretty subjective to the prism of the reader and viewer. But to say -in a vacuum-, that there is no merit to some argument that these people deserve a home, is to be having a slight myopic longview of things.

If I may, can I recomment a book? its called the Iron Wall, a history of the Jewish State. It is fair, centered in its view and political record, and can add light to everyones opionions; no matter the religions or secular view.

I enjoy reading your posts, btw :)
