More on the Gustav Evacuees
There were several letters to the Editor this week in our local paper about the ungratefulness of many of the evacuees from Gustav. Folks, the evacuees have been so pathetic that even the editor of our local newspaper had negative things to say about them. I think people in my area are fed up with being hospitable and then being spit on.
They’ve complained about the taxpayer funded food.
They’ve complained that the taxpayer funded buses that transport them are too bumpy or too slow.
They’ve stuffed towels and other items down into toilets and drains.
They’ve stained toilet seats, floors and walls with (use your imagination).
They’ve been verbally abusive to volunteers trying to help them.
They’ve stolen everything they could get their hands on.
They’ve complained that they can’t buy beer on Sunday.
Our government has created a culture of people who get something for nothing and they think the world owes them. So many of them are self-centered, full of hate, mean-spirited, immoral, abusive and destructive.
And the one unbelievable thing about all this is that God loves them. Not only that, but He loves them as much as He loves the best individual on earth. He loves them so much He died for them.
Hard to fathom.

Ok - just curious.
- Was Hiphop was big among these folks?
- What was the % of whites in this group?
I don't want to turn this into a racial thing. As a matter of fact, in our local online newspaper forums, there were negative remarks from blacks about the evacuees' behavior.
This is what Welfare programs, whether permanent or temporary, spawn.
An entitlement mentality. This is what Barack Hussein Obama wants to expand.
Hear, all you who have ears!
An entitlement mentality. Exactly. And when people think they're entitled, they develop an "attitude" toward everyone around them - it's actually very similar to being royalty - expecting everyone to wait on you hand and foot.
I wsn't turning this into a racial one. I was just trying to understand the facts here.

Why are we so afraid to talk about race?

Who is afraid to talk about race? You misunderstood me if you think I am. I'm just saying that the problems with the evacuees are not because of race - they're because of culture. (or lack thereof)
Because race is irrelevant. There is no fundamental difference between people of different colors. The difference is in their attitude and environment. Race has nothing to do with either.
I recently spent 9 weeks working in a predominently black neighborhood just outside Washington DC, and I found they are no different than white people. All people have the same sorrows and joys.
Thank you, Mark. Well said and insightful.
