Don't Self Destruct. Read your Bible.
Don’t you love it when some agency or group spends hundreds of thousands of dollars to come up with some profound realization that you already knew about?
Live Science has an article listing the top 10 Paths to Self Destruction. After reading them, I thought about the fact that if these guys had just read their Bibles once in a while, they could have discovered these truths without spending all that money!
Here are the top 10 ways to self destruct according to their research. Beside each one I’ve listed some verses of Scripture that we can all adhere to and avoid these paths to self destruction.
1.Consistently get less than 7 or 8 hours sleep a night
“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:8
“When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.” Proverbs 3:24-26
2.Don’t get yearly physicals
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” I Corinthians 6:19
3. Don’t exercise your brain
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” II Timothy 2:15
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7
4.Be promiscuous
“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” James 4:4
“For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.” Mark 10:7-8
“Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.” Proverbs 5:18
5. Drive everywhere you go, without a seatbelt – and eat and talk on the phone while you’re doing it

6. Drink lots of alcohol

7. Stay stressed out
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6

8. Watch lots of television
“Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.” Proverbs 4:15
9. Smoke tobacco
and
10. Eat fat-laden, sugar-heavy junk food in large quantities

Man always thinks he makes all the discoveries and has all the answers. But God says
“The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?” Jeremiah 8:9
